OT: ubuntu eee issues

I know I should be asking this on the ubuntu list, but I don't  
subscribe anymore. Is there a list specific to ubuntu eee?

I can't get automount of removable usb drives to work. It complains  
about permissions. I have insured the user has all permissions in the  
Users & Groups GUI and the appropriate parts of the Authorizations  
GUI. Still get the error whenever I insert a USB stick.

The other problem involves getting stnaptics/gsynaptics to work. I  
have inserted the SHMConfig option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf but I still  
get the error that it is not there.

Any ideas?
