Links sent in emails do not work.

This didn't make sense; I suppose I should have known, so I re-did the 
process first open the new string and copied 
'network.protocol-handler.app.https, clicked OK then typed 'firefox'
into the next open window.  I repeated the process once more.  Then I 
closed everything and attempted to open links.  The link for email 
opened a pre-addressed email response window, so that worked, but when I 
clicked on a browser address, nothing happened as before.  Can you tell 
me what I did wrong?  Sorry for being so stupid.  Thanks for the help.
