Laptop CPU freezes

My dv8000 with AMD Turion, 2GB memory, experienced multiple hard lockups 
yesterday, can't seem to figure out the cause.  Log files that I know to look 
at are clean.

I was running Firefox 3.0 and Krusader at the time...have a LAMP, wikimedia 
server running as well. I have been running these constantly for about 9 
months, so do not believe they are the culprit.

My gut feeling tells me to look at CPU temperature, but do not know the 
tools/configuration for this.  Any help?
