As commented in the responses to the slashdot article, it is likely to
be an advantage to oem installers to be able to use a one stop shop
for such needs. An obvious difference between winworld and k/ubuntu
world is that almost all windows users around the world bought their
windows on a pre installed machine. A business like and convenient
method of obtaining certain codecs will facilitate
more oem activity for k/ubuntu.
Some end users may also find a retail product useful.
