Herewith.  The /etc/network/interfaces file has been generated by Kubuntu, and 
I currently have the Ralink configured to static.  When it is configured to 
DHCP it vanishes from /etc/network/interfaces.

The 3 things together are rather long, I'm afraid.  I'd better say thank you 
here at the beginning!  So, thank you :-).
