I just checked the US Dell site again.  I don't know what people are 
talking about.  You can not only get a 16gb SSD with Ubuntu, you get it 
at the same price as the windows one.  I just checked and the 16GB 
windows inspiron 9 is the exact same thing as a Ubuntu one with a 16GB 
SDD upgrade and a 1GB RAM upgrade.  Actually, technically at least, the 
Ubuntu machine is cheaper because both show a price tag of $449, but the 
windows one shows the actual price at $489 with a $40 discount.
