Sounds like ntpdate is installed but not running, or that its just not
connecting with any ntp servers.

Is your laptop one with wi-fi capability, and if so is that on all the
time? If so,try changing your ntp server.  Or, this is always a last
resort, enter in a console

ntpdate

and it may give some indication of what is happening.
