k3b calculates the md5sum and displays it. It does not make a decision
as to the figure being correct or not. the figure shown will hopefully
be identical to the md5sum given from the downloads mirrors. If it is
th esame then it shows that your downloaded file is intact.

If the cd rw i snot being accepted as a 'CD' then maybe the burning
process is suspect in some way. I hav enever tried to use a rw medium
I have only ever used cd-r, they are pretty cheap.
