Upgrading packages

As an example ........

I use sylpheed email client which I installed from the repositories. It 
is version 2.4.5. Looking at the web site I see that the latest stable 
version is 2.5.0, but I have not seen any update information at all. So 
my question is, will I ever get updates for such packages and if so how?
