Sorry I didn't answer, I missed this one.

Yes, I am using a smtp server other than gmail's interface as you can
probably see from my headers.

The list doesn't accept email from other than registered users does it?
Or, perhaps it does, I don't know. Since the emails you receive at gmail
come from the list, rather than me (unless I reply only to sender, which
I almost never do), they wouldn't be sent to you if it didn't verify,
would they.

At the particular time this was being discussed, my posts weren't coming
through to the list at all, hours later they were. Perhaps something in
the path was being reconfigured.

But enough of this OT thread this is pretty far afield of Installs and not
of much interest to anyone else. Over and out.
