Actually, quite the opposite, I don't expect them to pick this up.
Whether I blame them, I suppose yes and no. I don't expect any volunteer to
do everything the app developers I mentioned do for the users. I understand
that most apps are born of a need or interest of the original developer. But
as apps grow — take amarok for example — the project becomes bigger than the
original vision.
A lot of developers take satisfaction in the widespread adoption of their
brainchild. That happens when the userbase is happy with the product, and
some developers gain incentive for pleasing users in order to gain widespread
acceptance an use.
I have usually found open source software to be more responsive to the wishes
of users than proprietary software.
