Although I use joe myself, I wouldn't suggest it for others. The key 
bindings are not necessarily obvious. A better editor for the command 
line is nano. It shows the key bindings and it is included with the 
standard Kubuntu. OTOH, the GUI solution to edit a file as root would 
be "kdesu kate".
