No audible mail notification in T'bird after upgrade to 8.04

Now I lost all KDE sound. I tried to install pulse-audio. It killed all 
my system sounds so I removed it. I still have no sound from KDE. I do 
have sound from terminal applications like mplayer. How can I get my KDE 
sounds back?
