It works in Vbox 2.0.2 but I had problems with 1.6 (or whatever it was). You
can fix the screen resolution by adding vboxvideo as the video device in your
xorg.conf.

Like this:
Section "Device"
         Identifier "Configured Video Device"
         Driver "vboxvideo"
EndSection

It took me a while to find, but I have no problems. The guest additions compile
and work just like they are supposed to now. I also read that if you're having
problems with your mouse to add vboxmouse (?) to the mouse device. I forgot the
link but I found it on the vbox forums after some searching.
I'm running 8.10b as guest in vbox 2.0.2 on an up-to-date Kubuntu 8.04. It also
works on a 64-bit win 2003 server as a host. After the last upgrade hell, I'm
waiting to see other's problems before upgrading my host.
