kde4 mouse problem

Has anyone had the problem of the mouse just disappearing from kde4.1?

I haven't figured out what triggers this yet (anyone?), but there's no mouse on 
screen and no evidence that any active screen areas are triggered by moving an 
invisible mouse over them.  The keyboard remains active so the only solution 
I've found is CTRL+ALT+Backspace (unless someone knows a command to "reload" 
the mouse.
