How do I format a thumb drive in Kubuntu Hardy KDE 3.5.9

/somedir is meant to tell you to run it on "some directory", i.e. the 
directory you want to check.  for the thumb drive, it will probably be 
something on /media.  A lot of times Kubuntu can find the brand name of the 
drive an make the directory have that name, so for example, if I plug in my 
Kingston thumb drive, Kubuntu mounts it as /media/Kingston
