unwanted package upgrades SOLVED

I can answer my own question now. It was a dumb question.

I checked in synaptic, saw that openssh client and server 
packages were listed in the Status/Installed/Upgradable 
list. 

I selected to remove the packages and then checked in 
synaptic what was going to be removed and only those two 
packages were listed and had synaptic remove them.

Now they have disappeared from the upgrade list.

This was obvious by checking in synaptic, but it wasn't 
obvious to me going by Adept Notifier.
