Last time I used nvidia-glx from the repos it had the version number 177 
(177.80)

As for 180.06 it fixes most of the glitches I was complaining about on 
4.1.3 (icon corruption, taskbar flicker when using some gtk apps, plasma 
issues).
Can't really say it feels faster (or slower), but imho the improvement 
is quite significant.
