Firefox 2.0.0.14

I am a Linux inexperienced user, I thank the forum in advance for
patience and help.

I am running Kubuntu 8.10 under virtual ware VMware Fusion for the Mac,
version 2.0.1., on a Macbook AL ("Late 2008"), Intel Processor Core2Duo.

Synaptic Package Manager indicates that Firefox 3.0.4 is installed.
There is no mention of Firefox 2.0.0.14.

Nevertheless when I launch Firefox Web Browser, the browser that
launches shows version:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404
Firefox/2.0.0.14

How can I remove 2.0.0.14, and use the current 3.0.4? "Add/Remove" does
not help.
