It's crude, and one of these days I'll break something, but generally
when a pre-removal script breaks I just go into /var/lib/dpkg/info and
remove the relevant .prerm file. Then run "sudo dpkg --configure -a".
Then *inst scripts are another matter, because they're probably trying
to set up something necessary, but the *rm scripts usually just leave
some cruft if you skip them.
