Ooops! I did forget to put that in. It's 8.04/3.5.10. I did upgrades 
from somewhere around 7.04 till 8.04. I don't think I ever had 6.x, but 
may have . I don't remember exactly when I started using Kubuntu. 8.10 
is my first fresh install since I started using Kubuntu.

It seems like the issue started with the last round of KDE updates a 
couple weeks ago.
