Trying to install 8.10

Thanks for that, and the answer is - yes, I did.

Under it, the white screen vanishes and a black screen takes its place
with just a hint of a grey oblong appearing.

Then it loses connection through my ethernet cable........

Sorry, I just cant get Kubuntu 8.10 to install....
