It seems there are no longer any drivers found with 2.6.24-17 but if one boots 
with the previous 2.6.24-16 kernel it does find a driver.  Actually the 
complaint I see is that it does not find any soundcard in the -17 version.  I 
have tried to find hardware config tools but they seem to be totally missing 
in this distro.  I'm feeling a little like I am back in the C=64 days as 
everything has to be done with a CLI.   I did get the /boot/grub/menu.lst 
file edited so it defaults to the -16 version.  I just cut the two top 
listings and pasted them back in under the -16 versions.  Now I have to 
escape to grub menu to bring up -17 if I want to but it defaults once again  
to 2.6.24-16, so normally everything works.  I finally got Kate to come up in 
root mode so was able to edit the menu file.  Only took me two days.
