Where are monitor etc. settings kept?

i dont know, maybe these settings in my xorg.conf are still from the
days of gutsy, it's been ages since i manually edited anything there, if
it's true that hardy is not using the file anymore, then it is probably
a useless file now. if anyone knows anything about this, please tell us
about it.
