As a KDE user, I didn't want to install Firefox from the Ubuntu sources
because it installed too many unnecessary gnome and gtk libs. This was the
gutsy case; I don't know if that has changed with hardy as my system is an
upgrade.

Anyway, I installed firefox 2 from mozilla.com and installed it
to /opt/firefox. Everything seems to work with static libraries, and the
only dependency needed is libstdc++5 (or something like that).

I don't use firefox 3 because my favorite extensions don't yet work with it.
However, it does seem to share the home directory configurations with firefox
2 when installed this way.
