I'm 99.9% sure Konsole isn't generating its own carriage returns.

It's probably some config option. I remember getting prompted to pick what
level of questions I wanted to answer somewhere or other. It was probably
Debian, and the Ubuntu installer probably hides this question, and provides
its own default answer. I'm afraid my memory of what I'm trying to recall is
so vague that I can't google or grep my way into an example of just what I'm
talking about.

Maybe Hardy picked the "don't show me anything unless it's seriously critical"
option. I remember picking that one time, and being disturbed at the lack of
control, so I went back to a more noisy option, but one a notch less noisy
than the option that had me answer every bleeding question.

I wish I could be less vague. I really do. I know I'm definitely talking
about something, but damn if I can remember exactly what it is.
