I haven't found any cons to using virtualbox... and a few pluses.

I used VMware for about 8 years and paid a lot of money over those years.

It did the job and was pretty reliable except when a new kernel would come out
and then the pieces that you needed to compile would not compile. You had to
wait for someone to come up with a any-any-any-<ad nauseum> patch in order to
get things to compile.

I decided to give VBox a try and it was easily installed. The only part that
was hard was hooking it up to networking and I succeeded in doing that two
different ways. One used the bridging now provided by the kernel and the
other was using the networking provided by VBox. Can't really say which is
better... mayhaps each one has some cons. I can surf the web and connect
to most of my local machines, but sometimes things don't work all that well.

I never got USB to work under VMWare but maybe today that is a non-issue. I
do have it working under VBox and it works quite well.

Other than going really deep into each virtual world, something I can't do
because I don't really use either very deeply, I think VBox is better and
easier to work with.
