Is it possible you don't have "pc105" in your xorg.conf file? If you have pc104 or something else, the Win key won't be recognized at all. You can edit the xorg.conf file or do a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" but this also involves setting up the mouse and video card.... Probably be safest to just edit the file... Make a backup in case..
