Thanks for your help!
I looked through both Adept and Synaptic (just in case they gave
different information). The jre and qt3-mt libraries appear to be
installed, but I'm still getting this error message:
$ opera
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libjvm.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded:
ignored. ERROR: ld.so: object 'libawt.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be
preloaded: ignored. /home/graham/lib/opera/9.27-20080331.6/opera: error
while loading shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
However, I reinstalled all I could see and the JBidWatcher icon
appeared. This was an application I had installed which used java, but
which wouldn't run. This gives credence to the idea that the problem
lies with java.
I tried to run JBidWatcher and I got this error message:
$ jbidwatcher

So I'm confused. Where to go from there?
