Using IMAP for the list

have recently started receiving my emails for this list via a new 
server. This time I have set it up using IMAP instead of POP3. One 
difference between POP3 and IMAP is that, with IMAP, downloaded emails 
stay on the server until manually removed.

I receive the emails OK and I can send them, but they do not stay on the 
server. Other emails which I download to my computer via this same 
server do stay on the server. (I look upon this a a sort of backup.)

Is the list set up to remove downloaded emails from the server even when 
using IMAP? Or am I missing something somewhere?
