Getting sleep and hibernate working on a Dell Inspiron 8500

Greetings, fellow Kubuntu users!

For some strange reason, my Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop is having issues with
going into Standby and Hibernate mode with
Kubuntu 7.04. Pressing the lid switch makes the LCD turn off, but sleep mode
doesn't kick in properly.

I'm at a bit of a loss on how to get this working. Does any other Dell owner
out there have some advice, perhaps?

Thanks in advance,
