Mine works fine with 'motion' and other programs, but is weird with Skype.
For a while I couldn't get it to work at all (it produced a black picture), 
then, all of a sudden it worked fine. I don't remember doing anything to
cause this. A few days ago, it suddenly stopped working with Skype and
went back to black mode. Skype turns it on all right, but something is
setting some parameter very badly.  When it works the picture is very
nice, and the low light sensitivity is quite good. Even when the picture
is black the microphone is active with Skype.
