You are probably right on track here, Ric.  It is my old computer though.  

I purchased a Power Supply Tester, but it hasn't arrived yet.  But another 
poster suggested the possibility.  I think I remember him saying this type of 
resolution is a part of his work.  Anyway, I need to test the PS on the new 
computer to eliminate that as a possible reason for failure.  I also will 
test the power supply on this machine to see if there are any voltage drops 
that could cause this kind of problems.

Anyway, I remove Compiz and am going to wait to install it in the new 
computer.  I solved, with the help of this fine forum, my problems with kmail 
and kwallet.  This computer works pretty good right now.  I am going to wait 
with format considerations until I get the new computer going.

I have some thoughts that my kwallet problem was the guilty party in most of 
the following stability problems.  Since I fixed it, other problems that I 
did not know might be related have gone away.  Thanks so much for your help.
