sudo chown -R $USER:$USER $HOME
in a terminal. I think that will fix it.
I had already done the above to no effect, but I did it again anyway
still no good.
rm -Rf .config/Google
The above did the trick, the chown -R.... left the Google dir still
owned by root:root mutter, mutter.
and maybe also
rm -Rf .googleearth
didn't need to do this one
and it should work.
Once again thanks to you both, am now a happy bunny
