Thank you for the thought, but I have.  I have that with Thunderbird.  I 
even had Kmail working a couple of years ago.  I have duplicated the 
functioning configuration of my current servers; it just doesn't work 
with Kmail.  I don't understand it.  I have exhausted every option I 
know about or that anyone has suggested; it still doesn't send an 
email.  They arrive just fine.  Just can't send.  Thanks for you help.
