Kubuntu Hardy won't play .bin movie?

Very odd, I have never met a .bin video file before. After a bit of 
reading I found that vlc and mplayer could play such files, with mixed 
results. Have you tried mplayer?
You said it appeared as an archive. Try opening it with Ark or use rar 
directly from the command line if you have it installed. If it can list 
its contents then it's an image.
