question on mounting of external drives

Plug it in and open a konsole. type: dmesg, then look for the device it 
detects the drive as (/dev/sd something). Try to manually mount that with
mount /dev/sdX /media/blah
(where X is whatever and blah is a folder that exists)
Any errors from that will help you diagnose things.

I have also found that Dolphin does a better job of mounting drives than 
Konqueror, for some reason.
