Screen goes blank loading X after upgrading memory

Ok that's good. I was thinking that your memory modules didn't match or one 
was bad, but that isn't the case.

Have you checked to see what linux was recognizing with top? I know it's 
unlikely one or both of the modules are faulty, but it's always best to make 
sure. If I were you I would also check to see if the  module(s) are seated 
properly. This is highly unlikely, but sometimes windows if flaky.
