The primary advantage of letting the GPU handle GUI rendering is that
it removes that strain from the CPU.

It allows cool things like implementing the GUI layout manager
entirely on GPU without CPU involvement.  Hasn't been done yet AFAIK,
but it makes it theoretically possible in the near future.
