Because, in a simple email conversation it's easy to keep track of who
said what.

This is a conversation between hundreds ( dare I say thousands ? ) of
people who will come into the conversation at any time, even after
it's finished since some people receive daily or weekly digests. Top
posting becomes confusing because you get the answer before the
question.
