  Your input is serendipitious - I've got an issue with my monitor for sure, 
but I also found that some(body|nome|bot) had commented out the following
line:
TerminateServer=true
in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
in the 
[X-:*-Core]
section.
Enabling the directive solves the logout problem, it may be some time before 
or if any problems with the "Run Command" dialogue resurface.
In the meantime, I must look over your xorg code regarding my monitor.
