Kubuntu causing computer to overheat. (I think)

Did you install and configure the lm-sensors package ? That should
give you an accurate report of what the temperatures are for the
sensors that are installed.

Unfortunately it's a bit complicated, but if you're really worried
it'll be worth the trouble. And the directions are pretty easy to
follow.

The box said 'Requires Windows XP or better'. So I installed LINUX
