"sudo blkid -c /dev/null" will give you information about all your 
partitions.  My external drive shows up as:

/dev/sdb1: UUID="9407c6aa-0d8e-47b6-b08b-a300f00aee5f" SEC_TYPE="ext2" 
        TYPE="ext3"

This should let you recreate the fstab entry.
