OK. You didn't have sendmail installed. Why not install it now? I've 
been running my own mail server on sendmail for 8 to 10 years now and it 
really isn't that tough to set up. It's really pretty intuitive on 
modern distros. And there's lot's of help available. Just Google it. So 
go on, give it a try.

PS. yes, I am a system admin, NO, I'm not a Sendmail expert.
