Printer not printing

I have installed many versions of Linux, every time taking care to have
the printer connected and switched on. That way the printer has always
been found and set up for me.

Recently I installed Feisty on a lap top for my brother as he wants to
learn it. This time he did not have the printer attached. Now he wants
to use the printer with the lap top.

The printer is showing up as "idle, accepting jobs". It is the correct
printer. However when we try to print something, nothing happens, and
when I check there are no jobs in the list. Can anyone point me where
to look please?
