No UTF-8 in Konqueror

Not sure if this is your problem, but there are two different modes
for transferring files with ftp.  There is binary mode and ASCII mode.
 I am not certain if ssh and sftp have implemented file support for
utf-8, but it should be implemented.  Maybe there is an "utf-8 mode"
just like there is binary mode and ASCII mode in ftp.
