I'm not the OP obviously, but newer versions of Kmail put mail 
under "/home/<id>/.kde/share/apps/kmail/".
so, he may need to either move the correct mail there, or adjust 
his /home/<id>/.kde/share/config/kmail* file(s) to point to the old location.
