OpenGL runs awfully slow

Hello, everyone out there! I need a little advice on how to get a little
more "oomph"
from any OpenGL programs.
I'm running Kubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn" on my Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop,
which has
512MB RAM (soon to be 1GB), and a nVidia GeForce4 4200 GO video card with
64MB RAM.
I installed the SuperTux and ZSNES packages from the Multiverse repository,
as well as
Quake. The problem, however, is that whenever I run them, they're so slow
that a snail looks
like it's speeding compared to the programs. I haven't changed the card
config all the way yet;
when I do, can someone give me the best setting for it so I can at least get
to play these games
at full speed? Thanks!
