QT parted is not a great program unfortunately. Gparted is in a much better 
shape and is more fail-safe if you just need to get the job done. (I don't 
like to say this, as I always wish for more K in Kubuntu! However, it is the 
truth.)

Watch for the gparted live disk, or alternatively, you could do what I do at 
disc partition fiddling time: boot with the kubuntu live-DVD and then in a 
konsole ask for gparted to arrive with "sudo apt-get install gparted".
Once that is done, launch gparted and get the job done.
