libc is vital, libc6-i686 is not (it provides i686 optimized versions of the
same routines available in the libc6 library).  I would suggest purging the
libc6-i686 package.  Then reinstall it.  However, if there's really a
problem with the libc6-i686, I usually can't do anything at all.
